What is telehealth?
Telehealth uses technology to provide access to healthcare via a secure video link. Basically you will see your doctor through a video visit. Whether you’re practicing social distancing but need to have a medicine check with your doctor, are sick and don’t want to spread your germs, or can’t arrange childcare to make it across the city for an appointment, telehealth makes seeing your doctor convenient and safe.
Maiden Lane Medical provides a variety of health services via the Healow phone app. They’ve also partnered with a telepsychiatry provider (sohomd.com) to offer online mental health assessments and counseling services to help you cope with the ever-increasing anxieties and challenges of modern life.
Telemedicine/ Virtual Visit
You can see your regular physician or nurse practitioner via the secure Healow app. The team also offers basic COVID-19 screenings and advice via the telehealth service. Whether you need a medication follow-up appointment, a sick visit, or a rash or abnormal mole, the team provides the same expert and compassionate care that you can count on at Maiden Lane Medical. Using remote patient monitoring devices we can manage your weight, diabetes, and blood pressure from the convenience of your own home.
Tele-gynecology
Unless you need an exam, ultrasound, or other testing, you can check in with your gynecologist at Maiden Lane Medical via the app. They provide services ranging from birth control counseling and refills to abnormal bleeding and menopause management.
Tele-physical therapy
You don’t have to give up your physical therapy appointments because you can’t make it into the office. The team of physical therapists can coach you through your sessions via Healow. They can watch you move to ensure you’re performing each exercise correctly and offer advice and corrections. They can also answer your questions, track your progress, and adjust your plan to help you continue to improve.

Telenutrition
Whether you’re participating in a weight loss program or working with a nutritionist to improve your diet to address issues like hypertension or diabetes, you can continue to get the support and advice you need from the nutritionists at Maiden Lane Medical. The team can meet with you via Healow to review your progress, answer your questions, adjust your plan as needed, and give you a motivational boost to keep you on track. You can also upload your health stats, including your weight, blood pressure, and AC-1 levels to the Healow app at any time.
Tele-urology
If you’re dealing with a urinary tract infection, erectile dysfunction, or symptoms of an enlarged prostate, you can talk to your urologist at Maiden Lane Medical from the comfort of your own home or office via the Healow app. Like other specialty areas, if you need a physical exam, you will need to come into one of Maiden Lane Medical’s conveniently located offices. Still, for most consultations, you can use the secure telehealth service.
Telehealth
Tele-pain management:
Our tele-pain management services are perfect for patients who are in too much discomfort to come in for an office visit, or for patients who simply prefer to complete their pain management consultation or follow up visit from the comfort of their own home.
Our board-certified pain management physician is able to collect a detailed history, review tests/images and complete a limited musculoskeletal exam remotely, and she will formulate a comprehensive treatment plan, including referrals to physical therapy and for additional testing. Take charge of your symptoms with the convenience of tele-pain management.
How do I access the telemedicine services?
Accessing our telehealth or video visit services is convenient and simple.
Download the app
First, download the Healow app to your smartphone. You can use the same username and password that you use for the Maiden Lane Medical patient portal. You can also use the Healow app on any computer or tablet that has a camera.
Make your appointment
You can schedule your appointment using the Maiden Lane Medical online booking tool or call the practice. If you try to book online, but your provider doesn’t have a telemedicine option, call the office. The team is working rapidly to ensure that all physicians, nurse practitioners, and other providers have telemedicine capabilities.
Starting Your Appointment
You will receive an appointment reminder email prior to your appointment. Inside this email, there will be a link directly to the appointment. There is no need to further log in.
Alternatively, when it’s time for your appointment, you can log onto the Healow app. Make sure to grant permission for Healow to access your camera and your microphone so you and your provider can see and hear each other.
To maintain your privacy, make sure to be in a room by yourself with the door closed. You can log on at home or work, as long as you have sufficient privacy to talk to your provider.
What are the benefits of telemedicine?
Telemedicine services provide many patient benefits.
Excellent healthcare
A telehealth appointment is more or less the same as an in-office appointment. You and your provider can see each other while you discuss your health. You can show your provider your throat, rash, or strange-looking mole, just like you’re in the office. Everything is just a bit more convenient.
Convenience
In most cases, you can schedule your video visit when it suits your schedule. You don’t have to try to squeeze your appointment into your lunch hour or rush to the office before or after work.
An average medicine follow-up takes 15-20 minutes. You can book your appointment when you know you’ll have a break during the day and not have to worry about commuting.
Also, you don’t waste time sitting in a waiting room. The team at Maiden Lane Medical does their best to keep wait times brief, but sometimes things happen that are out of our control.
Safety
Another benefit of avoiding the waiting room is that you are neither exposed to sick patients nor will you spread your own germs if you’re sick.
Less costly
You save money by opting for telehealth. You don’t have to pay for gas, parking, rideshare, taxis, or the subway when you meet with your healthcare provider via the Healow app. You don’t need to pay for childcare or eldercare if you’re responsible for children or your parents.
You also don’t have to take time off work to see your provider, so you don’t need to worry about lost wages.
When should I see my doctor virtually?
With the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, avoiding crowds of people is more important than ever, and the telehealth service allows you to get the health care you need without increasing your risk of exposure. While the team at Maiden Lane Medical takes every precaution to protect you and themselves, it’s better to make smart and safe decisions now.
You can schedule a telehealth appointment at any time. Some of the services the team can help with include:
- Medication follow-up
- New medication
- Birth control counseling and refills
- Disease counseling
- Lifestyle counseling

The team can provide you with at-home blood pressure equipment and A1-C tests so you can perform some necessary health checks at home. You can also check your weight on your bathroom scale and upload these stats via the Healow app. If you can’t make it into the office but need to see a member of the Maiden Lane Medical team, you can always request a virtual visit.
